Going to be bored for the next few hours as I am in standby mode with no place to go
So here’s my question:
You have to choose between a car you aren’t allowed to modify ever or one you have to modify to get it where you want it. (but no major swaps, i.e. chassis, body, unrealistic engine swaps etc.). Which do you choose and what car? You have to keep it for 10 years min.

If money is no object, this will cover all of my needs as is:

Okay now think of the car that money would allow you to buy and modify.

Mods. Because stock is for suckers.
Mostly though, I cannot think of a single car that is perfect as it is. Everything can be improved to some degree or another.
My current “lottery money” car is a MK7 Golf R in grey that I want to have the seats redone with the center sections in the blue plaid cloth from the Euro e-Golf. But otherwise, I’m not sure that car needs much else done to it. I’d probably run 18" wheels because we can’t have nice roads.
Of course I still irrationally want an LC of some kind, but the Golf R is a more practical choice for my daily needs.

CTS-V Wagon, vs pretty much anything. An LS swap is never unrealistic, so I can pretty much do whatever the hell I want.

It’s hard for me to do stock. Even my wife’s daily got mods straightaway.

Is budget a thing?
No modify - Ford GT
Modify - my truck
If we’re talking things I could afford?
No modify... for 10 years? - Mazda 6 GT maybe.
Modify - Focus RS

Wife’s current daily is all stock. Her new ride is incoming and I have already purchased mods for it.
I will be posting about it here once we get it. And it will controversial.

1965 Cutlass convertible. LS3 (or maybe an Olds 455 to stay old school), 6 speed, 4 wheel discs all around, and as much re-work on the suspension as I can reasonably afford. Basically stock interior, but with better sound than the AM radios these came with.

Let’s say budget is sixes. I.e. what you spend to mod is what you can buy stock.

I’ll have a stock 1972 Saab 96, 1967 Sonett II, Toyota Sports 800, 2013 Suzuki Kizashi GTS.
or
Modified Alpine A310, Renault Dauphine Gordini, Suzuki Cappuccino, Saab 99, Renault Caravelle, 1977 Mazda B1800.
There are a lot of cars I want. Some cars I want stock, some I would restomod. Does it half to be our only car for everything for 10 years?

$60K US? MMMM.
No modify - Audi TT then, I do really want one. Don’t judge.
Modify - My truck again. At least I know I plan on keeping it 10+ years, the extra cash would really help it become a great driver.

My first car was a ‘65 Cutlass hardtop. It holds a special place in my heart for that reason.

You can still find some decent NSX’s in the low 30's. I would leave that stock.
But what I really want.... Old Volvo brick wagon. Swap in mid 2000's s60 seats, LS swap with a T5 (or quaife sequential, although that would decimate the budget), tons of sound-deadening, clutch bypass and remote start... Get a custom semi-active suspension setup from 949 Racing (basically an upgraded version of magneride) and Pegasus wheels. Goal? Make a high power luxury wagon that’s built to last

10+ years is a LONG time. I can have kids, more kids, need to travel long distances, gas could become more expensive, I could move to a much colder part of the country etc.
S0meone already posted the E63 AMG wagon, So Blue 2018 BMW M5 with AWD that can be turned off it is.
As for car I would buy and modify, a used jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and I would make it even more hardcore.

I approve of this. And yeah 10 years is a long time but I wanted to make sure it wouldn’t force choices that were somewhat practical.

I’ll take a stock Suzuki Kizashi GTS. I think it would be a good car to live with for 10 years. A Saab 9000 hatch would be awesome and perfect, but I could not afford the maintenance. My wife asked me if I could only have 1 car the 9000 is my choice since it is a capable comfortable all-rounder.

I’ll modify my car where I want to get it, and that car will probably be an ‘08 Legacy Wagon.
This car may be a decade old, but it’ll go a decade more. Possibly with new “tsututu” noises coming from it.

Yeah, mine was a great car - but I itched for a convertible, so after 6 months, I conned my dad into letting me buy a ‘65 Skylark convertible from a classmate, and sold the Cutlass. That was a mistake - I traded a great car, for a beautiful looking POS. Ah well...
